A charming villa composed of a totally renovated 250-years-old miller’s cottage made of the local “pietra serena” stone. Mulino di Cortona is located within walking distance from the village of Tavarnelle, close to the wonderful city of Cortona, with stunning views over the Chiana valley. The villa is immersed in a green lush park of more than 300 acres. Within 15 to 20 minutes walk it is possible to reach the local bar where pizza, drinks, ice-cream and bus tickets can be bought. The bus lines on the road Cortona – Arezzo and connects the villa with Arezzo, Camucia and Cortona.
The formal garden around the villa has been decorated with local terracotta statues and equipped with many areas for outdoor eating and relaxing. A cosy pergola covered of wisteria surrounds a mill stone table – made with the original round graining stone that was part of the mill. You find other enchanting spots in the garden. Wisteria-covered pergolas, oak and fig trees offer shadows on the private parking area and the whole garden. All colours of Tuscan flowers and perfumes of local herbs wrap up the whole place.
The villa is located on a hill from where guests will enjoy one of the best views ever! It is possible to admire the whole Chiana valley, with the Monte Amiata mountain in the horizon, and from the other side it is possible to see the medieval castle of Castiglion Fiorentino.
The villa is composed of two floors, both with direct access to the garden and different entrances. The top floor holds the kitchen, with direct entrance from the garden. The kitchen is provided with a large table and chairs for up to 10 people to eat together. The access to the garden will bring you to two different outdoor eating areas. The kitchen is fully equipped with all cookware, tableware, 4-burner stove, gas oven, double sink, refrigerator with freezer and electric toaster.
On the top floor there is one double bedroom composed of a large comfortable double bed (1,45mts x 2,00 mts), a chest of drawers and a window with a view. There is also a full bathroom equipped with a wide shower box, WC, bidet and sink. On this floor is located the cosy living room with an open fireplace, comfortable sofa and armchairs, table and chairs.
The lower floor is composed of a spacious bedroom with a sitting room inside it, a large double bed (1,50 mts x 2,00 mts) chests of drawers, wardrobe, table, upholstered cane armchairs and a settee with cushions. Next to it there is a smaller bedroom, furnished with twin beds (80 cm x 200 cm), chest of drawers, cupboard, table and chairs and a private washbasin with cold and hot water. Both bedrooms have direct access from the garden.
There is a full bathroom on the lower floor equipped with bathtub with hand held shower, sink and WC, it has two entrances and can be accessed directly from the external or from the smaller bedroom through a lobby. The two bathrooms in the villa are provided of hairdryers.
The fourth room is totally independent as it has an independent access from its own private garden area and has no internal connection to the rest of the house. It consists of a twin bedroom furnished with cupboard, table and a private basin with cold and hot water. This bedrooms has it’s own private bathroom that is actually detached from the house, it is a “garden bathroom” with a shower, WC and basin, located right in front of the bedroom.
The villa offers a separated laundry-room equipped with washing machine, iron and iron-board. The tiled floors are covered by rugs and all the windows have shutters and mosquito nets. The main rooms, restored sensitively in the local style with exposed beams and whitewashed walls, are provided with wooden chests of drawers. All rooms have central heating.
The private swimming pool, located behind the carport, is a partly in the ground pool with a stone covered terrace which matches even with the pool on to sides. This solarium area is equipped with sun lounges, umbrellas and reclining chairs. The pool measures 4,5 x 9 meters and is 1,20 meters deep.
A covered gazebo right next to the pool offers shadow and a cosy equipped area for outdoor dinners or snacks by the pool, with tables and chairs available. The pool area offers stunning panoramic views and in the evening it is lightened. The pool will be opened from May up to the end of September.
Another outdoor sitting area is available on the back garden, under a pergola, right next to the grill and barbecue area. There is a large wooden table and benches for the whole groups to seat together and have a fun barbecue party.
Mulino di Cortona is strategically positioned for day-trips in Tuscany and Umbria. A 15 minutes walk from a snack bar and bus stop; a short drive from supermarkets, shops and train station (located at Camucia, on the lower part of Cortona). By car you are only 10 minutes drive from Cortona and within 1 hour drive from Assisi, Perugia, Arezzo, Florence, Montepulciano and Siena . Within 20 minutes you can reach the amazing Lake Trasimeno with its sandy beaches and islands, many boat trips and activities are available in this wonderful place.
For those who are wine enthusiasts, it is very easy to reach the most important wine producing areas like Montepulciano, Montalcino and Florentine or Siennese Chianti. At Cortona’s Touristic Information it is possible to get wineries information for a “make-yourself” wine tour.
