One of the more powerful among the Etruscan 12-city confederation, and like Cortona just up the Valdichiana, the lowlands around Chiusi are a treasure trove of tombs for this civilization which taught the Romans a thing or two.
A real special day trip we want to propose is a boat trip on the Tuscan coast. I did this myself with a group of friends and we had a lovely time.
