Lucignano

After the Italian Civil War, the traditions changed to specially built cars with wooden planks which were lavishly decorated with carnations and other more local flowers.
Originally the farmers would use this parade in Luciagnano Tuscany as an antique way of celebarting the new growing season - which has sprund into life after a long and cold Tuscan winter.
The theme of the carts in Luciagnano varies according to the builder and extends from fantasy to fables to history and are traditionally covered in blooming flowers.
The farmers would gather together from neighboring towns and parade through the streets of Lucignano recreating every year the folkloristic event of the Maggiolata. Not only would there be carts but also dancers in the offical dress and musicians playing and singing local songs.
