Le Chiuse

A winery with a fascinating and ancient history, Le Chiuse belonged to the family Biondi Santi for centuries. The great grandfather of the owner, Simonetta Valiani, was Jacopo Biondi Santi, who fought together with Garibaldi for the unification of Italy. After the unification he restarted his grand father's activity: wine making. He continued the search for the ideal vine and after some selections of ancient varieties, he arrived to the clone of San Giovese known as Brunello.
The farmhouse and the cellars are still preserved, they have invested in a total renovation without loosing the original characteristics. The same for the wine, that is made on the base of the ancient vines still alive after 60 or 70 years! These are the basic stumps from where they produce the grafts, maintaining the originality of this Brunello wine.
The products of Le Chiuse are: wine - Brunello di Montalcino D.O.C.G. and Rosso di Montalcino; extra virign olive oil and grappa of Brunello. The whole farm has obtained the Organic certification from the European Union, a label that shows the autenticity of the organic cultivation of this farm. Their aim is the best quality, and for that the production is made in a few quantity - only 40 qli per hectare. Le Chiuse wine is researched by wine lovers and experts for its traditional and typical methods.
The havest is made only by hand, the vinification follows the traditional process with a long maceration period and the aging is made inside the Tuscan typical barrels made of oak, with large capacity (from 2 to 5 thousand liters each) and the wine is aged for a period of at least 5 years.
The owner has created spaces inside the old cellars where is possible to receive groups for a guided wine tasting, upon request. You can contact the Fattoria directly by:
