Montepulciano in a medieval cozy town known for its many antiques cellars where people can do a wine tasting tour. Here you will see how wine used to and still is produce, where it’s maintained and how to recognized a good wine.
Under the city there is a kind of underground city that connects all the cellars. This is something really worth a visit.
While you walk through the town, you will reach a lovely shop, the Gattavecchi store, where you can buy and taste this particular wine. The Nobile wine it’s the most prestigious one. While you are having you degustation you will enjoy pieces of bread with extra virgin olive oil made also from the family Gattavecchi. Another specialty is the Salami made with genuine Vino Nobile in it. You should try it when doing the degustation at Gattavecchi cellars.
At the beginning of the town the family run a typical Restaurant. When you enter you find at the first floor the degustation saloon, where you can taste and buy bottles of wine. Then you can have a tour in the underground floor where you see the massive barrels in the cellar made of Tufo stones, to keep the right temperature and humidity in each season of the year.
