Located in a large property in the top of Florentine hills, this villa is part of this historic town, in Italy called “Borgo” that dates from around the 13th century. This is one of the old farmhouses that have kept its original architecture and decoration with the traditional Tuscan terracotta bricked floor, original wooden beams, fired brick tiles and a fireplace. Actually, it is very interesting the way it has been built, on a kind of natural panoramic platform.
A beautiful stone path leads you to the main entrance of the house. It opens to a lobby with a small studio and two armchairs that takes to the living room and dining room area. The original stone fireplace, the beams and the terracotta floor give some atmosphere to this cosy living room, where you have two sofas and a TV. There is also an old stone sink renovated and used as part of the furniture. You will have a very clear idea of how people used to live during the medieval time – with the difference that you now have all modern conveniences. You have a table and chairs that seat up to 6 people and one single sofa bed.
Going ahead there is the kitchen, equipped with a small table and chairs, 6 burner stove and gas oven, a big refrigerator with freezer box, double stainless steel sink, and all tableware and cookware sufficient to prepare from a simple breakfast to a great Tuscan menu. You have also a private barbecue area outdoor, table and chairs covered by a lush pergola, so you can enjoy the day light or the fresh evenings preparing a delicious Fiorentina steak on the grill while tasting a Chianti wine, that matches perfectly with the red meat.
Remaining on the same floor, you will find a double bedroom with a charming old wrought iron double bed surrounded by a traditional mosquito net that gives also a touch of antique decoration, and a window that opens to a gorgeous landscape of the green hills. It is possible to add a crib in the double bedroom if you have a small child.
Then you have one full bathroom with a bathtub and a handheld shower, and another bathroom with shower and a washing machine. Both bathromms have WC, sink and bidet.
All on the same floor you have two more bedrooms, one of them with twin beds, and the other one with a single French size bed (120 cm large). Both of them have a mosquito net and the apparent stone walls keeps reminding you about the medieval time. Actually, air conditioning here it is not even necessary because of this old strong walls made of local stone, that maintains the temperature in the house. It works more or less like a wine cellar, keeping the environment fresh during the summer time and warm during the winter.
The basement floor actually is not available for guests use, there used to be old cellars or the place where the farmers used to keep the fire wood, grain, hay and some times animals. This place is really like a time-machine. It will get you back in the past where the nature is lush and green, where local people used to build their houses using this big pieces of local stone, to get warm and to cook with the fireplace and to enjoy life in a simple way, close to the land and to the nature.
If you like to walk, you will enjoy a lot to hike the hills all around. Or if you prefer just to relax around the pool you can enjoy the nice climate of this area, sunbathing or swimming on the shared pool. There are five other villas all on the same property, that belongs all to a local family from Londa, a charming town with a nice clean lake located beside the river Moscia. Florence is about 30 km far from the villa.
Downhill, 5km from the villa, you get to the village. There is a coffee shop just before crossing the bridge, and on the other side, where there is a big parking area, you find very nice restaurant which specialty is fish dishes, not so common in the heart of Tuscany, but they really get fresh fish there, it is in exhibition in a large refrigerator for you to choose before choosing the menu. Prices are very acceptable.
