CASALE STIA is an old but well maintained, 3 storey Villa which was completely renovated some years ago. The Villa is located in a beautiful sunny position nearly on top of a smooth hill, with a little stream of water passing on the border of the property. This stream was the water supply for the ancient wool factory (lanificio) which was the only industry in this valley. 50 Years ago this factory closed down leaving behind the old liberty style factory buildings. A group of persons together with the local administration is projecting to restore the old factory buildings into an art museum.
The L-shaped Villa has three entrances, two on the front and one on the back side. In front of the house there is a large terrace. The smaller part of it is covered, and here you have a beautiful outdoor dining area. The larger part is not covered but there are several large trees around to keep it fresh and shady in hot summer days. There are sufficient tables and chairs to have a dinner outside with 20 persons. There ia an outdor BBQ - area as well.
Trough the first door you enter into a large Taverna with a massive wooden table for up to 16 persons. This Taverna is a kind of summer kitchen with a wood burning Pizza oven, a BBQ and a complete furnished kitchen including a dishwasher. A large glass door connects to the front terrace and the garden area. This is the perfect space to have your dinner together with the whole group. From the Taverna there is a small corridor that leads into the laundry and storage room, complete with washing machine, dryer, iron and iron board.
When you enter the second door on the ground floor you steep into an ample living room full of light. The three arched windows open up to the covered terrace and from May to September you can connect the outdoor terrace with the large indoor living area. You can live the summer at its best. The CASALE STIA has two living rooms on the ground floor both with an open fireplace.
The first floor with the bedrooms can be reached by an internal staircase or by an outside staircase from the garden terrace. Coming up the internal staircase the first bedroom right hand is the master bedroom. Nearly 40 square meters large with 3 arched windows and with a private balcony terrace overlooking the park and the valley below. It has a king size double bed and a fold out sleeping sofa for 2 persons.
The Villa has 4 bath rooms, one with a tub and hand shower, all others with a shower box. The bathrooms are spacious and have large windows, they are tiled with colourful Italian ceramic.
Following the corridor, on the first floor there are two more bedrooms with a double bed and one bed room with a single bed. All bedrooms have large built in cupboards with lot of storage space. All bedrooms have wooden parquet floors.
On the second floor there is only one mansard bedroom with a double bed, that can be changed into two singles on request. Attached to the bedroom there is a bathroom with shower box.
Actually there is one more bedroom on the first floor with a fold out double bed, but it’s a pass trough room if you want to reach the second floor you have to pass it. CASALE STIA offers a lot of space even for large groups. The total living area of this Villa is 380 square meters, nearly 4000 square feet of very comfortable space. Attached to the house there are two terraces. The large front terrace has 150 square meters and the smaller backside terrace has 40 square meters.
The pool is located in a panoramic position, 20 meters from the house, with sun all day long. The pool is 12 meters long and 6 meters broad. There are sun chairs and umbrellas in sufficient quantity and next to the pool is a shady terrace under some old trees. You will find a golf course only 9 km away, a Tennis ground is distant 1 km and there are two horse riding stables close by.
The smaller living room connects trough several arches with the dining area and the kitchen. The whole ground floor is full of light and really ample with lot of space for the whole group. On the left side there is a wooden table with chairs for up to ten persons.
The kitchen is complete furnished with all modern facilities. You will find a large double door refrigerator, dishwasher, coffeemaker, toaster and a 4-burnner gas stove with large oven and dust hood. There are large marble shelves on both sides with lot of working space and on the angle that connects to the living area you find a round breakfast table in white marble.
On request we have a cook to come in and prepare a delicious Tuscan meal for you. Maid service is also available, let us know in advance. The kitchen is equipped with everything you need for cooking. There are plates, glasses, silverware and pottery in large quantity.

This is a very nice place in the outskirts of a very cosy, small village with a few nice restaurants. We, two families consisting of a total of 11 ppls incl. 5 kids, stayed here for a week, and really enjoyed our stay. The house is like taken from a 1930 movie with plenty of space, surrounded by a nice garden with a beutyfull swimmingpool. The host was very helpful as well, and we would like to come back

Good Morning: We returned to Ottawa late last night, so I will respond to this in more detail with pictures later. But overall, a very enjoyable experience for all 3 couples involved. The villa was fantastic, all we imagined it to be. Very comfortable, well-appointed with all amenities, except for the dishwasher. Loved the pool and views. My wife and I knew the area from previous visits. The host family was very helpful. Should we ever do this again, I would definitley use your agency. E. Riddell

We had a lovely time. Lucia was very attentive and able to answer all our questions. We can recommend the meal cooked at the house - excellent local fare.

Casale Stia is a beautiful villa located in a quiet area of Tuscany. The villa is very well equipped with many areas for guests to relax in. The dining and lounge areas ensured everyone had room to enjoy themselves and not be cramped. The owners were exceptionally nice and were willing to help with anything they could. We would definitely recommend this villa to a large group of about 13 people. Lovely. Glorious views. Relaxing!!!

Lovely large property and private with plenty of grounds for children to play in. Couldn't use the swimming pool which was a pity because we love swimming, just too brrrr cold. Everything well maintained, staff very helpful tho language a problem but fun trying to understand and be understood. The Tuscan Feast which was prepared in the kitchen, for our large family, was indeed a feast and so enjoyable to watch it being prepared. Would recommend to everyone. Grandchildren loved going to Poppi to the zoo and also horseriding. Golf course also a hit with the big boys. The little town of Stia is delightful. All the locals so friendly. The gelato shop was visited daily by all of us. Train travel not that easy but once you figure out which station and which line to use, it could be negotiated. You need a car with GPS. Beautiful area near forests a delight to go walking through. Look out for the enormous mushrooms! Your company was easy to deal with and very helpful. Thank you. A top notch holiday.

It was the most amazing place I have ever stayed. I have traveled all over the world and I have never been more relaxed in my life. The caretakers were amazing and made sure we were well taken care of. The views were breathtaking and the old world charm of the house made me feel like we were swept away in an old Italian movie. The house was very well maintained and very clean and comfortable. The town was so charming and the residents of the town were so accomidating and friendly. I would recommend this house to anyone seriously interested in the complete Tucsan experience. We are planning on renting the house again in 2012.

Plenty of room and very well equipped. Lucia was very helpful informing us of the festival activities over the weekend. The 'villa wine' was also very nice (you have to pay extra for this). Wireless internet was a huge bonus with 5 teenagers! Local restaurants in Stia all very friendly and particularly the geleteria in the old square. This was great for morning coffee. The website is easy to navigate and very informative. The agency did a great job!

The villa was wonderful, more than we expected. It was very spacious and large enough for 8 people to live very comfortably together. We loved the location, close enough to walk to Stia..the kitchens were great as was the pool. The ower Lucia and her family are very attentive to guests. They picked up two of our party at the train station and retrieved lost luggage for another in our group. We decided to have dinner cooked by Lucia ann her friend Manuella. It was absolutley wonderful and we would recommend this to all who stay at the villa. The town of Stia is sweet and even though we speak little Italian it was not a problem for us.
Yes, we enjoyed several of the local restaruants in Stia. We ventured into Florence by bus for the day, would recommend although a long trip about 2 hours. Try the gelati in Stia, it was the best that we had the entire time in Italy (also went to Rome,Sorrento and Capri).
What did you like on our website www.tuscany-villas.com ? The pictures of the villa and the other guests reviews of the villa.
Dealing with us as an agency what did you miss what can be done better? We have no complaints. The agency responded almost immediately to any emails, questions or concerns.

Casale Stia more than fulfilled our hopes and dreams for a week in Tuscany. It was so spacious and comfortable and in such a picturesque environment that we were content to spend most of our week at the Villa or in the township of Stia itself, despite the fact that Stia is so close to so many notable Tuscan towns and cities. However we did visit historical Poppi and of course Florence was a must. On the day we visited Florence we drove to Siece and then travelled by train (about 15mins) into Florence. Note when coming home, because of the short platform, you need to be in the front carriages of the train to Arezzo to be able to alight at Siece. We are very appreciative that Lucia always promptly responded to our queries and requests during the booking stage and while we were staying at the Villa. These times included coming and meeting us in the town and arranging for one of Stia’s local cooks to cook a traditional Italian dinner for Andrea’s birthday on our arrival night. One of our great memories is walking into the kitchen and seeing the cook making homemade ravioli, which was delicious as was the Millefoglie birthday cake. We also appreciated the Pizza Making Evening with Vincente from one of the local Pizza and Pasta restaurants. We have to agree that Italian pizzas do have a unique taste and crust. With the weather so hot the pool was a popular place each day, even motivating us to a three generation relay contest. Great fun, many laughs and great photos. Other little moments of surprise include the shepherdess walking her flock past the villa one evening and the hens clucking and roosters crowing – a genuine touch of country life. We would be remiss if we did not mention the fresh local foods, good restaurants, friendly locals (despite our lack of the Italian language), the closeness of Casale Stia to the town centre (fifteen minutes to coffee and the best ever gelati) and the very good, reasonably priced local wines available at the Villa

What a wonderful 2 weeks we had. The villa is a great place to stay. Stia is a great small town. Cortona and Anghiari were great towns to visit. Italy is beautiful!

The area was very beautiful, especially during our trip in October 2008 with all of the brillent Fall colors. Everyone we meant was very friendly, kind, and helpful. Because we speak very minimal Italian, reading the restaurant menus was often difficult. We visited all of the surrounding villages and towns near the villa and in Southern Tuscany. The villa was in a beautiful and relaxing country setting with lots of fruit, olive, walnut, maple, oak, birch trees, etc. The owners of the villa were extremely accommodating and friendly. A highlight of our trip was a private cooking class and formal dinner at our villa with Marisa Vitali and her staff of "Chicche di nozze" (www.chicchedinozze.com) It was so much fun and interesting to prepare pizza in the wood fired ovens, ravioli's, spaghetti noodles, chicken with white beans, and traditional tiramasu. Marisa also was so kind to come to our villa the following day and take us to her doctor 30 miles away and do all of the translation at the doctor's office and the pharmacy for our little 16 month old grandson who had a double ear infection. She went above and beyond to help us. Also, the owner's of the villa arranged a private tour of the olive mill, "Villa I Bonsi" in Reggello which was fantastic. Monika Wolfel 39-339-7674695 phone is the contact and she does speak excellent English too.

thank you so much, Lucia and Manuela, we had such a lovely stay. The food was amazing. We felt so at home all week. Stia is a beautiful town and we will spread the word about your beautiful villa. Ciao!

25 October 2008

The villa was wonderful and the property was lovely! Lucia and her family were welcoming and helpful. The villa had lots of space and rooms and was very comfortable for all of us. The pizza kitchen was our favorite place to be! Use the pizza oven! To visit Florence, drive to Sieci and take the 15 minute train into the city. The woolen goods at the T.A.C.S. shops and factory are beautiful! Lunch at the restaurant in the old center is wonderful.
We loved the villa! We loved the grounds: the lovely gate and driveway up to the villa, all the fruit and nut trees, and the view from the large patio. One day a shepherd brought a herd of sheep to graze in the lower field while we ate breakfast out on the patio. It was wonderful. We also loved the privacy of the villa. Even though we were a 5 minute walk from the old downtown, we were tucked up on the hill with complete privacy. The villa itself was much more beautiful and warm than the photos. It was also very spacious with lots of room to comfortably handle our 11 person group. The pizza kitchen was by far our favorite room in the villa and where we spent most of our time. The giant angled table made for many great meals and conversations! The owners were wonderful as was the house chef who cooked a delicious meal for us one night. The bedrooms were very large and spaced out nicely for privacy. Although it was too cold to use, the pool and patio around it were beautiful. We had a wonderful time!
Take note of the hours of restaurants and the two Coops in town. Poppi Castle is fabulous. The T.A.C.S. wool shops are worth shopping in...there are several of them in Stia and Poppi. The trout farm up the road from Stia was fun to see, and the trip to La Verna is well worth it. To go into Firenze, we would drive to Sieci, park and take the short train ride from there. Use the wood burning pizza oven...it was great!

Dear Lucia and family, We have had two wonderful weeks in your beautiful house. The kids enjoyed the pool and we adults enjoyed a relaxing time by the pool and some nice meals prepared by Nella and her helper. Also very nice restaurants in Stia. This was our first trip to Tuscany but not the last! Friendly people, beautiful area and very good food and wine. All the best!!! Family Willer

We had a wonderful time at this beautiful villa and exploring Stia and at surrounding Tuscany. Thanks to Manuela for the delicious dinner! We could not have imagined a better vacation. We came from Baltimore, Maryland, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, California. All that travel was definitely worth it! Hope to be back one day... Beautiful home, great people-we love Italy

17 May 2008

The villa is located just up the road from Stia which was perfect for an afternoon stroll to the gelateria or the Coop for groceries. There were 3 lovely restaurants in town to choose from as well as several boutiques with a variety of wares. The roads to the villa are gorgeous - winding through the mountains. We all enjoyed the town and the town.
Wonderful location - we made day trips all over Tuscany - Siena, Assisi, Cortona, Arezzo and Florence of course. A couple of us even managed to make our way to and from San Marino. The villa even more beautiful than the photos indicate and very spacious even for our party of 10. The owners - Lucia and her family were wonderful hosts. They met us at the front door and even shepherded a couple of us to the villa when we were lost on the road prior to our arrival. There are several wineries in the surrounding area as well as several "Wine Roads" very close to the villa.

what a beautiful place! we enjoyed the town very much-the castle, the restaurants, the people. We took side trips to "Camaldoli" and "La Verna". Wonderful lunch at "La vite" in Soci! Greve and Siena and Florence!
