Villa Azurra lies on the hill ANSEDONIA just opposite of the peninsula of MONTE ARGENTARIO, aprox. 100 metres obove sea level with wonderful views arround. ANSEDONIA and MONTE ARGENTARIO was and still is the most beautiful and most exclusive part of the Tuscan Coast. Since the 50th the rich and beautiful came from Rome, Milano and Florence to spend their summer and vacation in their villas and summer residences. Like a wide cone the rocky Monte Argentario, also known as the silver mountain, loomed out of the water. A roundtrip along the Strada Panoramica takes just about an hour.
Between Ansedonia and Porto Ercole lies the gorgeous sandy beach stretching from Feniglia for 6 km. You can only reach this part by foot or bicycle as this park is unter nature protection. Only at the far end of Cala Galera near Porto Ercole and in Ansedonia there is organised beach infrastructure. The beach itself offers a very fine white sand and goes flat into the water. Because of the protected location there are no waves or currents but only crystal clear water – making this beach the perfect place for vacation with children.
There is a good cycle path from the villa through the pine woods straight to the beach - just 5 minutes away. In the small village you can hire simple bicycles – if you prefer more sofisticated bikes you are welcome to bring your own. You should visit the city of ORBETELLO located inside the lagoon that spans between the firm land and the island of Monte Argentario. Small roads that open up in a beautiful squares all surrounded by historic buildings, restaurants and coffee shops. From 7 at night till long after midnight this is the place where the action is. Young and old will meet here, have a chat, a beer, or a snack. You can also reach the cities of Rome and Pisa in a aprox. 1,5 to 2 hours drive.
Less than 7 km from the harbour town of Porto Santo Stefano located on the island of Monte Argentario, you will find yourself in a great area for shops, restaurants and cafes. This is the perfect little town to stroll around in the evening catch a night cap and enjoy the authentic Italian coastal life.
The lagoon of Orbetello is the only place in Europe where you find a large colony of pink flamingos, coming originally from Africa they have settled down here for good due to the mild climate all year long.
Ansedonia and Monte Argentario with its rock bays and beaches are ideal for snorkelling, fishing and diving. The water is clean and crystal clear and thanks to the ban of fishing in this nature park you can enjoy a variety of fishes hardly seen in the Mediterranean Sea.
